Abstract
Nature plays a major role both in Stranger by the Lake (2013) by Alain Guiraudie and Stray Dogs (2013) by Tsai Ming-liang, two contemporary films directed in the same period but belonging to two different landscape civilizations. In the representations of nature of these two films, a type of landscape seems to be able to synthesize the aesthetic essences of the Chinese landscape and the European landscape. Moreover, the interdependence between the plot and the landscape generates a physical intimacy between the nature and the characters, which might be the key to make the nature into a sensory material and to transform the environment into a corporeal landscape».
