Abstract
Through essentially published (interviews, poems) and unpublished (diaries, letters) documentation, the link between Alba de Céspedes and France and the importance of this country for the evolution of the writer’s engagement is traced. The French itinerary is retraced through three stages corresponding to her childhood years, her discovery of success in French translation, and the turning point of May ‘68, which allowed Alba de Céspedes to identify with the revolutionary and libertarian choices of the young Parisian protestors. The last stage of her journey was her decision to leave Italy and take up permanent residence in Paris where, in the isolation of her working nights, she devoted herself to her last song of love for her country of origin, Cuba.
